Five Steps to Limbo
May 24, 2023
Practicing dying
comes easy: still, slow, shallow
breaths that disappear.
I dream of fading,
receding from surroundings,
wandering through gray.
An effortless slip,
slump into unconsciousness,
heart falling asleep.
My practice for naught —
foolish to assume a choice
in death’s encounter.
Instead I notlive,
a halfway sparking current
sapping my resolve.
